Two women in a counseling session.

Why I’m starting a Blog!

Why start a blog?  Like many people, I’ve been saying that I should write a book for years.  The challenge most people report is getting started on a task that seems so large!  Why would I write a book?  It seems as though some of my life experiences, though not unusual in comparison to the many stories I’ve heard, have brought me to interpretations and conclusions that seem unusual.

My life has been strongly influenced by the study of personality since I attended an Amway event in my early 20’s.  I remember standing in the audience listening to a presenter speaking about personality feeling amazed and overwhelmed with what I was learning.  I had struggled all my life with relationships.  Constantly being told that I was “too loud,” “too much,” “such a bitch.”  The speaker, using material from the book “Personality Plus” was helping me finally having a better understanding why other people perceived me in a way very different than the way I perceived myself!

Several years later, while working as a trainer and applying personality theory with my trainees, someone recommended I become a counselor.  A few years and degrees later, I opened a private practice and eventually a successful group practice!  I’ve heard many stories over the years and have lots of thoughts about human thoughts, feelings and behavior!  So this blog will be the place I plan to share the insights I’ve learned, the theories I’ve created and the advice I give.  Beware, I don’t come from a traditional psychology perspective.  My blog might be offensive to some people, might not be what some people want to hear.  It will always be honest and reflect my experiences.  So if that’s the kind of blog you’re looking for, keep reading!
